Baseball is officially back in San Diego, and it’s arriving earlier than ever. The Padres kick off the 2026 season at Petco Park on Thursday, March 26, marking the earliest traditional Opening Day in MLB history.

If you’re staying at the Gaslamp Hostel, you’re in a prime spot—it’s just a 15-minute walk (about 0.7 miles) to the ballpark. You can skip the $60 event parking and the crowded trolleys, and just head straight down 5th or 6th Avenue to the gates.

Opening Series Logistics

  • Opening Day: Thursday, March 26 vs. Detroit Tigers at 1:10 PM.

  • Party in the Park: Friday, March 27. Before the 6:40 PM game, Gallagher Square will host live music and $5 drink specials. Plus, the first 40,000 fans get an Opening Series Scarf.

  • Fireworks Night: Saturday, March 28. Stay after the 5:40 PM game for the first fireworks show of the season.

  • Holiday Baseball: The Padres are home for Mother’s Day (May 10 vs. Cardinals), Memorial Day (May 25 vs. Phillies), and Labor Day (Sept 7 vs. Nationals).
